How to Use the Elden Ring Armor Optimizer

Start with the weight your build can still spend on armor. Choose what you care about most, add a minimum poise target if needed, and pin any armor piece you refuse to replace. The page shows top combinations instead of pretending one set is best for every build.

How Armor Optimization Works

The optimizer treats the problem as a weight limit, a few requirements and the stat you care about most. It combines one helm, one chest piece, one gauntlet and one leg armor piece, removes combinations that exceed your budget or miss your minimum poise, then sorts the remaining sets.

Weight

Maximum armor weight is the hard limit. If you used an equip load calculator first, open this page with that remaining armor weight already filled in.

Poise

Minimum poise is a requirement, not just a sort. Use it when you need a breakpoint such as 51 poise before maximizing defense.

Damage Negation

Physical goals average physical, strike, slash and pierce. Elemental goals use the matching magic, fire, lightning or holy negation.

Resistances

Immunity, robustness, focus and vitality are shown in the armor builder totals, but they do not get mixed into the main ranking.

Example optimization

A common setup is: maximum weight 28, minimum poise 51, optimize for physical defense. The optimizer first removes every four-piece set over 28 weight, then removes every set below 51 poise. Only after that does it sort the remaining sets by physical, strike, slash and pierce negation.

That order matters. Sorting by physical defense first can return a heavy set you cannot wear, or a low-poise set that misses the breakpoint you were trying to keep.

How Balanced Defense is sorted

Specific goals are direct: Maximum Poise sorts by poise, Fire Defense sorts by fire negation, and so on. Balanced Defense is intentionally broader. It gives the most attention to physical negation, still considers elemental negation, and rewards poise, because a real armor choice usually balances all three.

If you are preparing for one boss or damage type, do not use Balanced by habit. Pick the damage type that is actually killing the build.

Poise builds

Optimize Armor for Poise

Use Maximum Poise when your build wants the highest poise possible under a weight cap. If you only need a breakpoint, enter that value as Minimum Poise and optimize for a defense type instead.

Poise optimization is most useful when you have spare weight and want to trade more safely. If your target is specific, such as 51 poise, the better setup is usually Minimum Poise 51 plus another goal. That asks the tool for enough poise, not all possible poise.

Tank builds

Optimize Armor for Physical Defense

Physical Defense ranks armor by physical, strike, slash and pierce negation together. It is useful when enemies mostly deal weapon hits rather than elemental damage.

Elden Ring splits physical negation into four related values. The optimizer treats them together for the Physical Defense goal, so it does not overvalue a piece that is good against one physical subtype and weak against the rest.

Resistances

Optimize Armor for Magic, Fire, Lightning and Holy Defense

Elemental goals are separate because a set that is excellent against fire is not always excellent against magic or holy damage. Use the top 10 results and compare table when two combinations are close.

Magic

Use for sorcery-heavy areas, magic bosses or builds that already have enough physical protection.

Fire

Use when fire breath, lava, flame incantations or fire-based boss attacks are the main problem.

Lightning

Useful for enemies and zones where lightning damage matters more than raw weapon hits.

Holy

Useful against holy-heavy encounters, especially when a normal physical tank setup is not solving the fight.
