Compare Two Weapons

Compare the current weapon against a second weapon with its own affinity and upgrade level. Higher AR is marked as displayed AR, not actual post-defense damage.

How to Use the Elden Ring Weapon Calculator

Start with the calculator above, then use these checks to avoid the usual AR calculator mistakes: illegal upgrades, wrong affinity assumptions and confusing displayed AR with actual combat damage.

Set your attributes

Enter STR, DEX, INT, FAI and ARC. Vigor, Mind and Endurance are intentionally excluded because they do not directly change weapon AR.

Choose a weapon and upgrade

Pick a weapon, then use its legal upgrade range. Somber weapons stop at +10; normal smithing weapons can reach +25.

Pick an affinity

Only affinities available for that weapon are shown, so you do not waste time comparing impossible setups.

Compare the result

Review total AR, damage split, requirements, scaling and what-if gains before moving the weapon into a full build.

Elden Ring Weapon AR Calculator

AR is the weapon attack value shown before combat-specific reductions. This calculator focuses on displayed weapon AR, scaling, upgrade level, affinity and requirements.

Base attack

Each damage type starts from the selected weapon and upgrade level: physical, magic, fire, lightning and holy are calculated separately.

Real scaling strength

The calculator uses each weapon's actual STR/DEX/INT/FAI/ARC scaling strength, not just the public S/A/B/C/D/E letters.

Stat growth curves

Attribute gains follow gradual in-game curves, which is why softcaps are not a single hard breakpoint.

Requirement penalties

If a requirement is not met, affected attack types are flagged and penalized instead of silently pretending the weapon is fully usable.

Conceptually, displayed AR is base attack at the selected upgrade level plus attribute scaling from your stats. In practice, Elden Ring applies that work separately for physical, magic, fire, lightning and holy attack. That is why this page uses actual game data instead of guessing from the public scaling letters shown in-game.

Elden Ring Weapon Scaling Calculator

Scaling letters are useful for display, but AR also depends on each weapon's real scaling strength and stat growth curves. This page uses actual game data instead of guessing from S/A/B/C/D/E letters.

A scaling letter is a range, not a formula. Two weapons can both show B Dexterity scaling while using different real scaling strength and different base attack. The calculator therefore shows the letter grade alongside extra scaling detail when available.

The Attribute What-if panel is the practical version of this: it asks what happens if you add five points to one attribute right now. That is usually more useful than looking only at the letter grade, especially near softcaps where another five points may add very little AR.

What the scaling panel answers

  • Which attributes currently contribute to this weapon?
  • Whether two-handing changes Strength-based AR.
  • How much AR you gain from +5 STR, DEX, INT, FAI or ARC.
  • Why an affinity with lower base damage may still win on a high-stat build.

Compare Weapon Affinities

Affinity can change both the final number and the shape of the damage. A higher total AR is useful, but split physical and elemental damage can perform differently against real enemies.

Physical-leaning

Standard, Heavy, Keen and Quality usually keep the weapon mostly physical while shifting STR/DEX scaling priorities.

Elemental

Magic, Fire, Flame Art, Lightning and Sacred can add or emphasize non-physical attack types, creating split AR.

Status

Blood, Poison, Cold and Occult can matter because buildup and Arcane interactions may outweigh a smaller displayed AR difference.

Compare Elden Ring Weapons

Use the two-weapon comparison when you are deciding between weapons for the same stat spread, such as Moonveil vs Uchigatana, Greatsword vs Zweihander, or Milady vs Backhand Blade.

The comparison table reports displayed AR and damage split, plus requirements and upgrade settings. It deliberately says “higher displayed AR” rather than “best weapon” because range, moveset, ash of war, stamina cost, status buildup and enemy defenses can change the real choice.

Base Game and Shadow of the Erdtree Weapons

The weapon search supports both the Lands Between and Shadow of the Erdtree in one calculator, so DLC weapons do not need a separate page or a separate formula mode.

Use the Content filter when you only want Base Game weapons or only DLC weapons. The rest of the calculator behaves the same: select the weapon, set its legal upgrade level, pick an available affinity and compare the result against your current attributes.

Weapon AR vs Actual Damage

This page can answer which setup has more displayed weapon attack. It does not claim to predict exactly how much HP an enemy loses from a specific swing.

Damage CalculatorActual damage after enemy defenses, absorption, buffs and motion values.

For example, 700 split physical/magic AR is not guaranteed to outperform 650 pure physical AR against every target, because each damage type can be reduced separately. Use this weapon calculator to pick the weapon setup, then use a damage calculator when enemy defenses, buffs, motion values and attack type matter.

FAQ

What is AR in Elden Ring?

Attack Rating (AR) is the displayed attack power of a weapon before enemy defenses, absorption, motion values and buffs are applied.

How is weapon AR calculated?

Weapon AR combines base attack, upgrade multipliers, attribute scaling, correction graphs, affinity and whether requirements are met.

Does two-handing increase weapon damage?

Two-handing gives eligible weapons a 1.5x effective Strength bonus. It changes the Strength value used by the calculator; it does not simply multiply final AR by 1.5.

How do affinities affect weapon scaling?

Affinities can change base attack, damage split, status buildup and scaling. A Keen weapon may gain Dexterity scaling while a Heavy weapon leans into Strength, but the best result depends on your stats and upgrade level.

Which affinity gives the highest AR?

There is no universal highest-AR affinity. Use the affinity comparison table for your weapon and stats, then consider split damage, status and moveset before deciding.

Why do two weapons with the same scaling letter have different AR?

Scaling letters are broad display buckets. Two B-scaling weapons can still gain different amounts of AR because each weapon has its own scaling strength.

Does this include Shadow of the Erdtree weapons?

Yes. The calculator includes Base Game and Shadow of the Erdtree weapons for Elden Ring version 1.17.

Is weapon AR the same as actual damage?

No. AR is the weapon's displayed attack power. Actual damage also depends on enemy defense, absorption, buffs, motion values and attack type.
