Elden Ring Greatsword Stats and Scaling

Scaling grades describe attribute tendencies only. Actual Attack Rating depends on your stats, upgrade level, affinity and the weapon's underlying scaling values. This class currently splits into 10 Smithing Greatswords (affinity freedom to +25) and 14 Somber Greatswords (unique kits to +10).

Versus Colossal Swords, Greatswords usually cost less equip-load budget and recover faster between swings — that is why Claymore-style weapons stay popular even when a Colossal lists higher unupgraded physical.

Base damage is not AR

Physical, magic, fire, lightning and holy columns are unupgraded bases. Do not sum every type into a fake total, and do not rank Greatswords by those numbers alone.

Smithing vs Somber

Smithing Greatswords (10) can take Heavy, Keen, Quality, Fire, Sacred and other affinities. Somber Greatswords (14) keep a fixed kit — Blasphemous Blade and Dark Moon Greatsword live here.

Scaling grades

S through E show which attributes the weapon rewards as you upgrade. A C in Faith or Intelligence is a tendency, not a fixed damage bonus on the character sheet.

Requirements and weight

STR/DEX/INT/FAI/ARC gates decide whether the moveset works at full power. Weight still counts toward light/medium/heavy rolls — compare two Greatswords on equip load before chasing one more base point.
