Carian Slicer Location

Early Limgrave purchase after the Royal House Scroll — not a late mountain pickup.

Quick Answer

Location: Buy from Sorceress Sellen (Waypoint Ruins) after Royal House Scroll

Nearest grace: Waypoint Ruins Cellar. Buy from Sellen for 1,500 Runes after she has the Royal House Scroll.

Carian Slicer is a Carian royal-family sorcery you buy, not a boss drop. Unlock it by giving the Royal House Scroll to Sellen, Miriel, or Seluvis, then pay 1,500 Runes. The earliest clean path is: grab the scroll in eastern Limgrave, clear Waypoint Ruins, and buy from Sorceress Sellen in the cellar.

Two stops matter. First, the Royal House Scroll cellar in the stone ruins north-east of Agheel Lake South — stairs down in the middle of those ruins, corpse at the bottom. Second, Waypoint Ruins (central Limgrave): beat the Mad Pumpkin Head downstairs, talk to Sellen, hand over the scroll, and buy Carian Slicer. Miriel at the Church of Vows and Preceptor Seluvis can take the same scroll if you prefer their shops later.

Base Game

Carian Slicer is a sorcery spell, not an Ash of War. Nothing is smithed onto a weapon to unlock it.

Do not confuse the scroll ruins with Waypoint Ruins. Waypoint is where Sellen lives; the Royal House Scroll is a separate cellar by Agheel Lake.

If Sellen, Miriel, and Seluvis all die before any of them receives the Royal House Scroll, Carian Slicer stays locked on that character until a new journey.

Gave the scroll to a tutor who later dies? Take their bell bearing to the Twin Maiden Husks at Roundtable Hold and buy Carian Slicer there for the same 1,500 Runes.

How to Get Carian Slicer

  1. Step 1

From Agheel Lake South, ride north-east along the lake toward the broken stone ruins (not Waypoint Ruins). Look for a staircase set into the ruin floor and go down into the cellar.

  2. Step 2

Loot the Royal House Scroll from the corpse at the bottom of that cellar. You only need the item — there is no boss fight for the scroll itself.

  3. Step 3

Travel to Waypoint Ruins in central Limgrave (the ruin cluster with the underground room). Drop into the cellar and defeat the Mad Pumpkin Head guarding Sellen’s room.

  4. Step 4

Light the Waypoint Ruins Cellar Site of Grace, talk to Sorceress Sellen, and give her the Royal House Scroll. (Optional later shops: Miriel at the Church of Vows, or Seluvis in his tower after you meet him.)

  5. Step 5

Open Sellen’s sorcery shop and buy Carian Slicer for 1,500 Runes. It shows up with her other Royal House Scroll spells after you give her the scroll.

  6. Step 6

Memorize Carian Slicer at any Site of Grace once you have 14 Intelligence and 1 free memory slot, then equip a staff.

Carian Slicer Damage & Scaling

Carian Slicer is a swift magical sword slash, not a long-range glintstone bolt. Most of its value is attack speed, low FP cost, and repeated melee-range casts — not a single huge hit like Comet Azur.

Performs swift sweeping slash using magical sword. One of the sorceries of the Carian royal family.

Carian Slicer Damage Scaling

Intelligence is both the minimum to cast and the main damage path through staff sorcery scaling.

Pushing Intelligence and upgrading the staff raises every slash; the spell stays about speed, not a bigger charged hit.

Faith and Arcane are not required for Carian Slicer itself. Only add Faith if you also want aura buffs like Golden Vow.

Versus Carian Greatsword, Slicer trades per-hit weight for cast speed and FP efficiency — same school, different job.

FP Efficiency and DPS

The FP cost is among the lowest for a real damage sorcery, so long clears stay easy on blue flasks.

DPS is how many clean slashes land in the opening, not one big hit on paper. Missed swings hurt more than on slow heavy spells.

Against packs, line up the arc so one cast clips two bodies; against bosses, stop casting the moment they leave range instead of chasing with whiffs.

Cerulean Hidden Tear is optional here — nice for burst strings, not required the way it is for Comet Azur beams.

How Carian Slicer Works

Cast produces a short-range magical sword arc — think arm’s reach plus a little, not pebble sniping distance.

Recovery is short enough to roll, sprint, or re-angle between casts more freely than multi-slot lasers or heavy Carian Greatsword swings.

Lock-on helps the arc track a single torso in melee; free-aim when the target is on stairs, below a ledge, or slightly off camera.

You can cast while moving more comfortably than rooted channel spells, but you still lose if you try to trade jump attacks head-on.

Damage type is Magic. Each cast swings a short magical blade arc in front of you; hits still scale with your staff’s sorcery scaling and Intelligence.

It is built for chain casting: short recovery, very low FP, and high DPS when you stay in range and keep casting instead of waiting for one charged nuke.

Staff choice matters twice — raw sorcery scaling on every staff, plus extra damage to Carian sword sorceries on staves like Carian Glintstone Staff.

Weapon grease will not turn a sword into this spell. Carian Slicer still needs a staff and a memorized slot.

Best Carian Slicer Build

A Carian Slicer build is a melee-range Intelligence caster: enough Vigor to stand in slash range, Mind for sustained FP, and Intelligence for staff scaling — then talismans and a Carian-friendly staff.

These are suggested spreads for melee caster kits. You only need Intelligence 14 to cast; mid and late builds still push Intelligence for staff damage.

Carian Slicer PvE Build

Early (Limgrave / Liurnia): Meteorite Staff + Carian Slicer is enough. Raise Intelligence and grab a basic sorcery talisman before worrying about a perfect look.

Mid: move to Carian Glintstone Staff when you can wield it so Carian sword spells deal more damage. Add Graven-School / Graven-Mass as you find them.

Late: keep Slicer as the default melee answer; optional Lusat’s staff if flasks cover the extra FP cost. Memorize one reach tool (Greatsword, Comet, Night Comet) beside it.

Simple setup: Slicer on the cast you spam in melee, a projectile on the next slot, Terra Magica only when you plant feet for a long punish.

Spirit ashes or a co-op partner that holds aggro let you stay in slash range without eating every swing.

Best Talismans for Carian Slicer

How to Use Carian Slicer

Treat Carian Slicer like a magic sidearm: stay just inside melee, slash during short openings, and do not try to snipe from pebble range.

  1. Step 1

Memorize Carian Slicer (1 slot), equip a staff, and meet Intelligence 14.

  2. Step 2

Close to short melee range — about a straight sword’s reach. If Glintstone Pebble feels natural at that distance, you are too far for Slicer.

  3. Step 3

After an enemy’s attack recovers, cast two or three slashes, then roll or sidestep before their next swing. Do not empty the whole FP bar in one plant.

  4. Step 4

Against groups, step so the arc cuts through a clump; against a single elite, stay slightly off their center line so you can roll past after the string.

  5. Step 5

When the target jumps out of range, stop casting immediately and swap to a projectile or close the gap first — whiffed Slicers are pure FP waste.

Bosses

Best after long combo enders, stance breaks, grab recoveries, or when a spirit ash pins the boss in place.

Use short strings (2–4 casts), then defend. Slicer dies when you greed for one more slash into a swipe.

Poor when the boss never stops moving, flies constantly, or closes the gap into you every time you start casting.

If the boss keeps backing out of melee, swap to Carian Greatsword, a comet-line spell, or a weapon art with reach instead of forcing Slicer.

Normal Enemies

Excellent on soldiers, animals, demihumans, and tight halls where a fast magic blade beats slow comets.

FP cost stays friendly on long horseback or foot clears — this is where Slicer outshines beam spells.

Shield enemies and high magic resist still reduce damage; kick, guard-break, or swap damage type instead of endless Slicer taps on a tower shield.

Ambush packs: back up to a doorway, let them clump, then slash through the pile.

Casting and Positioning

Strafe with the camera slightly off-center so successive arcs still clip the torso while you stay ready to roll.

Lock-on for single targets in open ground; free-aim on stairs, ledges, and when lock pulls the blade into the floor.

Do not stand still trading jump attacks — Slicer wins on timing and FP, not poise armor.

On slopes, step to flatter footing before a long string so the arc does not sail over the target’s head.

Best Staff for Carian Slicer

Pick a staff for sorcery scaling first, then prefer Carian sword bonuses when you live on Slicer / Greatsword / Piercer.

StaffSorcery ScalingCarian Sword BonusFP EfficiencyBest For
Carian Glintstone StaffStrong INT sorcery staffBoosts Carian sword sorceriesNo Lusat-style FP penaltyDefault Slicer / Carian sword kit
Carian Glintblade StaffStrong INT staffFavors glintblade lines more than swordsEfficient castingMixed Carian kits that still cast Slicer

Lusat's Glintstone StaffHighest late sorcery damageNo extra Carian sword damage~50% extra sorcery FP costMax damage when FP flasks cover the cost
Academy Glintstone StaffSolid mid-game INT staffNone specialEfficientBridge staff before Carian / Lusat options

Pure Carian sword playstyle: Carian Glintstone Staff once you meet its requirements — that is the default Slicer answer.

Before that staff: Meteorite Staff + Slicer is already a strong early pair and needs no upgrade materials.

Lusat’s wins raw damage later if flasks cover the extra FP cost; Slicer’s low cost softens that penalty compared with heavy comets.

Carian Glintblade Staff is fine if your kit is glintblade-heavy, but sword-focused casters should prefer Glintstone Staff for Slicer / Greatsword / Piercer.

Carian Slicer vs Alternatives

How the fast Carian sword spell compares to the heavier Carian blade and to Moonveil’s weapon kit.

Pick Slicer when you are trading short openings, clearing trash, or only have one Carian sword slot.

Pick Greatsword when the enemy is locked in a long recovery and you can afford a slower, heavier swing.

Best practice with two slots: Slicer as default, Greatsword as the punish button — not the other way around.

Carian Slicer vs Moonveil

They are not substitutes. Slicer is a memorized spell; Moonveil is a whole weapon identity with its own skill.

Stay on Slicer if you never want to level Dexterity or equip a katana — staff casters already have melee pressure.

Spellblade kits can run both: Moonveil skill for wave pressure, Slicer when the staff hand is free in true melee.

If the question is “earliest magic melee,” Slicer wins on timing; Moonveil needs Caelid and weapon upgrade investment.

Is Carian Slicer Good?

Yes for Intelligence builds that want a cheap melee sorcery. It is one of the best early-to-mid FP-efficient damage tools in the Carian kit, and it stays relevant later as a close-range DPS spell.

PvE

Strong PvE clearing and boss punish tool whenever you can stay in slash range.

Pairs with any staff caster that already stacked Intelligence — it barely spends memory slots or FP.

Weaker if you refuse to enter melee, or in fights that are pure magic-immune / constantly airborne.

PvP

Usable in close duels as a mix-up after a roll or pressure string, not as your only plan to win.

Short range and an easy-to-see cast make it simple to punish if you spam from neutral; better inside a wider Carian or spellblade toolkit.

FP efficiency

Very high FP efficiency versus heavy comets and multi-slot lasers — long expeditions stay easy on blue flasks.

That efficiency is why Slicer remains memorized even after you unlock flashier late-game sorceries.

If your FP still evaporates, the issue is usually missed casts or Lusat’s extra FP cost, not Slicer’s base cost.

Carian Slicer FAQ

Is Carian Slicer a spell?

Yes. Carian Slicer is a Carian sorcery spell you memorize and cast with a staff. It is not a weapon buff grease.

Is Carian Slicer an Ash of War?

No. Carian Slicer is a sorcery. There is no Ash of War version of this spell — if you are looking for a weapon skill, that is a different item type.

Where do you get Carian Slicer?

Loot the Royal House Scroll from the cellar under the ruins north-east of Agheel Lake South, give it to Sorceress Sellen at Waypoint Ruins Cellar (or Miriel / Seluvis), then buy Carian Slicer for 1,500 Runes. Twin Maiden Husks also sell it if you turn in that tutor’s bell bearing later.

How much Intelligence do you need?

14 Intelligence, 4 FP per cast, 1 memory slot, and a staff. Faith and Arcane are not required for the spell itself.

What is the best staff for Carian Slicer?

Carian Glintstone Staff is the usual Carian sword pick. Meteorite Staff covers early game; Lusat's Glintstone Staff is the late max-damage option if you accept the extra FP cost.

Does Carian Slicer scale with Intelligence?

Yes. Damage scales through your staff’s sorcery scaling, which is driven by Intelligence and staff upgrades. Raising Intelligence and using a stronger staff increases each slash.
