How to Use Incantations in Elden Ring
Incantations are Faith spells cast through a Sacred Seal. You do not cast from the inventory: the seal has to be equipped, the spell has to be memorized, and your stats have to clear every requirement on the spell card.
- Equip a Sacred Seal in an active hand. Dual-wielding seals can stack some school boosts, but one seal is enough to cast.
- Rest at a Site of Grace, open Memorize Spell, and slot the incantation into your memory. High-slot spells force tighter loadouts.
- Meet the printed Faith, Intelligence and Arcane requirements. Missing any one stat locks the spell even if FP and the seal are ready.
- Keep enough FP for the cast, and watch stamina on charged or multi-hit spells.
- Select the memorized incantation and cast. Chargeable spells often gain range or damage when held; quick casts stay better for close trades.
Memory slots are shared across sorceries and incantations, so a three-slot legendary spell crowds out smaller utility tools. Sacred Seals change Incantation Scaling and can boost a school, but they never erase requirements. If a spell stays greyed out, check Faith first, then INT / ARC hybrids, then whether the seal is actually equipped.
